
Government Releases Guidelines For Workers’ Representative Elections
The government has today issued fresh guidelines for the upcoming elections of workers' representatives to Parliament and District Councils.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, Hon. Betty Ongom Amongi, during a press briefing in Kampala.
The new guidelines aim to ensure transparency, inclusiveness, and efficiency in the electoral process.
The Minister of Gender, Labour, and Social Development, Hon. Betty Ongom Amongi, has officially unveiled the revised framework that will govern the election of workers’ representatives to both Parliament and District Councils.
Speaking to journalists at the Uganda media centre in Kampala earlier today, Hon. Amongi who was represented by Hon. Esther Davina Anyakun from the ministry of gender, Labour, and ocial Development, emphasized that the guidelines are in line with the country’s labour laws and democratic principles
She further explained that the ministry will work closely with employers, trade unions, and relevant stakeholders to raise awareness and facilitate smooth implementation of the guidelines. Nomination and election timelines are expected to be announced soon by the Electoral Commission.
The government has issued a strong call to action for all stakeholders involved in the election of workers’ representatives, urging them to fully uphold their mandates to ensure that the electoral process contributes meaningfully to Uganda’s gender equality agenda.
The minister affirmed the government’s commitment to a transparent and inclusive electoral process that reflects the diversity of Uganda’s workforce and strengthens democratic representation.
