PRIMA

The Deputy Attorney General has presented a statement on the ongoing voter verification exercise stating its steady progress across the country.

This was however met with backlash as legislators questioned electoral commissions seeking explanation on among other concerns, the accountability for equipment worth 100m dollars that were passed down to aid election processes from UBOS that seem to be inefficient.

These say the smooth flow of the process in their respective areas is being affected.

Following the national voters’ verification exercise that commenced on Monday, 20th January, today, the Deputy Attorney General gave an update, mentioning the progressiveness of the exercise.

Despite the pronouncement of steady progress, MPs questioned the commissions efficiency, seeking accountability on among other things, the equipment worth 100m dollars that were passed down to aid election processes from UBOS which they claim are not seem to be put to adequate use at the centers.

However, the Committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs chairperson defended the commission explaining that over 450bn is needed by EC to fund phase 2 and phase 3 activities under their mandate.
