Bishop Nsereko Officially Takes Office: Construction of Bishop's House Resumes

On April 8, 2025, a momentous occasion unfolded as the Rt. Rev. Henry Katumba Tamale formally handed over the office of Bishop to his successor, the Rt. Rev. Gaster Nsereko. The ceremony commenced with a devotional service where Rev. Canon Herbert Fred Matovu delivered an inspiring message based on the 2025 Diocesan theme from Galatians 6:9.

A Colorful Handover Ceremony

The transition was marked by heartfelt remarks from both outgoing and incoming bishops, along with their spouses, who addressed the community gathered for this significant occasion. Among the attendees were

  • Mr. Moses Nsereko, Diocesan head of laity
  • Canon Amos Friday, Chairman of the House of Clergy
  • Canon Alice Ddamulira, Chairperson of the farewell and consecration ceremony
  • Various department heads and media representatives

Following the speeches, the official handover took place, witnessed by a select few within the bishop's office.

Meeting with Department Heads

In the afternoon, Bishop Gaster Nsereko and Maama Sarah met with the diocesan department heads and support staff. The gathering began with a devotion led by Rev. Canon James Ngoga, the diocesan education and health secretary, who emphasized the importance of recognizing God’s role in their appointments, as highlighted in 1 Timothy 1:12.

Canon Ngoga encouraged attendees to "make peace with the past" and heed the call from the consecration ceremony to reflect on their personal journeys.

A Call for Collaboration and Learning

Diocesan Secretary Canon Moses Kayimba urged his team to view their work as a divine calling, emphasizing the importance of time management and excellent public relations. Following this, Bishop Nsereko expressed gratitude for the relentless efforts of all members serving the West Buganda Diocese. He highlighted the value of learning from one another and the necessity of continuous growth, stating, "No one is born to work in such offices; thus, gaining skills through learning and exposure is essential."

He acknowledged the mentorship of Bishop Katumba and assured that he would invite his retreator to share further insights with the team.

Development Project Initiatives

Bishop Nsereko announced his commitment to resuming the construction of the Bishop's House, emphasizing his intention to complete projects initiated by his predecessor in a systematic manner. He encouraged the community to consecrate themselves to this cause and collaborate in building the bishop's residence.
