Cabinet Approves Reforms To Strengthen Plant, Machinery And Vehicle Maintenance:Gov’t Sets Aside Shs50 Billion For July Emergency Response.Cabinet Warns Of Higher July Temperatures, Urges Pub
The cabinet has approved a series of measures aimed at improving public safety, strengthening service delivery, and enhancing the country's emergency preparedness. The decisions include reforms to regulate the plant, machinery, and vehicle maintenance sector and the allocation of Shs50 billion to respond to the anticipated effects of higher-than-normal July temperatures. The resolutions were announced by the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba.
The cabinet has approved the principles of the Plant, Machinery, and Vehicle Maintenance Bill, paving the way for legislation intended to regulate and professionalize the country's maintenance sector.
The government says the proposed law will establish clear standards for the maintenance, relocation, and classification of plants and machinery while promoting research, innovation, and technology to improve safety, efficiency, and service delivery across the country.
Hon. Lumumba also shared about the repatriation of 1,030 Ugandans from South Africa who are currently in Kyankwanzi for patriotism training and rehabilitation.
The government says the exercise forms part of its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Ugandan citizens abroad by facilitating their safe return following recent security concerns.
Meanwhile, the cabinet warned that July is expected to experience higher-than-normal temperatures, which could increase food insecurity, place pressure on water resources, and raise the risk of water-borne diseases.
To strengthen the country's preparedness, the government has earmarked Shs50 billion for emergency response interventions and food supplies. Ugandans have also been encouraged to use available food responsibly, conserve water, and adopt measures to cope with the anticipated weather conditions.
The government says the implementation of the cabinet decisions will be coordinated by the relevant ministries and agencies to strengthen public safety, improve emergency preparedness, and enhance service delivery across the country.
