FDC Celebrates Gilbert Olanya’s Entry Into 12th Parliament: Olanya Vows to Fight Corruption and Push for Accountable Leadership. DC Calls for A People-Centred Speaker in New Parliament
The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has celebrated the official entry of Kilak South County Member of Parliament, Dr. Gilbert Olanya, into Uganda’s 12th Parliament, using the occasion to renew calls for accountability, integrity, and stronger leadership within the House.
Party leaders and supporters say the new Parliament must focus more on fighting corruption, improving service delivery, and restoring public confidence in leadership.
As activities marking the formation of the 12th Parliament continued, leaders and supporters of the Forum for Democratic Change gathered to celebrate the return of Dr. Gilbert Olanya as Member of Parliament for Kilak South County.
The event was marked by excitement, reflection, and renewed political commitment from party leaders who pledged to continue advocating for accountability and better governance.
Speaking during the gathering, Dr Gilbert Olanya echoed President Museveni’s recent remarks on fighting corruption, saying there should be “no sleeping” in the struggle against corruption and misuse of public resources.
He pledged to actively push for transparency and accountability in the 12th Parliament.
Dr. Olanya also observed that the 11th Parliament faced criticism from sections of the public over issues of accountability and service delivery despite the large amount of public resources allocated to government programs.
He noted that many Ugandans expect the new Parliament to focus more on people-centred legislation and oversight.
The Kilak South legislator further appealed to both Members of Parliament and the ruling government to ensure that the next Speaker of Parliament leads fairly and independently while prioritizing the interests of ordinary Ugandans.
Other FDC leaders and supporters who attended the celebration also pledged commitment to advocating for improved governance, accountability, and protection of citizens’ interests in the 12th Parliament.
The celebrations reflected the opposition party’s renewed focus on anti-corruption efforts, leadership reforms, and strengthening Parliament’s role in addressing the concerns of ordinary Ugandans.
