FDC Presidential Nominations to Begin Tomorrow, Six Candidates Eye 2026 Race
The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), one of Uganda’s major opposition parties, is set to kick off its presidential nomination process tomorrow and Wednesday at the party’s headquarters in Najjanankumbi. This marks a critical milestone ahead of the 2026 general elections, following the recent release of its electoral roadmap for 2025/2026.
Six hopefuls have announced their interest in contesting for the FDC presidential flag bearer position, including leading figures such as Hon. Patrick Oboi Amuriat, Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi, and Bumba Erinest. After nominations, candidates will undergo vetting, participate in a public debate, and then embark on campaign activities.
Deputy Secretary for Publicity, Mulindwa Walid Lubega, emphasized that the electoral commission will oversee a transparent and fair nomination process. The ultimate party flag bearer will be chosen by the FDC National Delegates Committee on July 31st to face off in Uganda’s 2026 presidential race.
However, the party condemned the electoral commission for alleged malpractices during the ongoing voter update exercise, which they say undermines electoral credibility.
This upcoming nomination process signals a pivotal moment as Uganda heads toward the next general elections. Stay tuned for updates on the FDC’s journey to 2026.
