Hon. Barnabas Tinkasiimire Alleges Abduction, Warns Military Overreach, Vows Legal Action

Kampala, Uganda— The Member of Parliament for Buyaga West Constituency, Hon. Barnabas Tinkasiimire, has publicly accused the military of orchestrating his alleged abduction last Saturday and announced plans to pursue legal action against the government over the incident.

Speaking at a press briefing in Kampala, Tinkasiimire pointed fingers at the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, whom he alleged was behind the operation. The MP condemned the abduction as illegal and a blatant violation of his constitutional rights as both a citizen and a legislator.

The incident attracted widespread attention after confirmation from his wife and legal team that Tinkasiimire had gone missing. Police spokesperson ASP Rusoke Kituuma confirmed that a missing persons report had been filed but stated that police had no knowledge of those responsible for his disappearance.

Tinkasiimire recounted his experience, revealing he was dropped off in Namungoona early Monday morning. He asserted that the abduction was politically motivated and issued a stern warning to Gen. Muhoozi against the abuse of military power for personal or political ends.

“I strongly warn Gen. Muhoozi against misusing the military for personal gains,” Tinkasiimire said. He emphasized his intent to seek justice through the courts, asserting that “no one is above the law” and that all Ugandans deserve equal protection under the Constitution.

Despite the ordeal, the MP reaffirmed his support for President Yoweri Museveni ahead of the 2026 elections. He also expressed a willingness to engage in dialogue with Gen. Muhoozi, advocating for unity and mutual respect among Uganda’s leadership.

As Uganda approaches the 2026 general elections, reports of politically linked abductions continue to surface, fueling public concern over the declining safety and political freedom in the country. The nation awaits a decisive response from authorities to address these alarming developments.
