Janani Luwum Celebrations February 2023
Over the weekend, The Archbishop of the Province of the Church of Uganda The Most Rev. Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu was the guest preacher during the Janani Luwum memorial function at Mucwini in Kitgum district.
During his sermon, the Archbishop called for the truth to remain core to Christians even in tabulate times. He went on to ask the celebrants to emulate the good deeds of Archbishop Janani Luwum in order to foster unity and truth. The Most Rev. Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu described the late former Archbishop Janani Luwum as a man of action that preached the gospel without fear or favour, stood in integrity as well as boldness and fought social injustice.
The Archbishop of Gulu Archdiocese His Grace John Baptist Odama called upon Christians to become united and importantly to love one another. He made this plea for all leaders cultural, religious and political at large
Mucwini, which is the burial ground for slain Archbishop Janani Luwum was declared by The President of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Museveni as a pilgrimage and tourism site as is the case with the Uganda Martyrs site in Namugongo
President Museveni while speaking as the Chief Guest of the celebrations in the Kitgum district said that the Ugandan government condemns and can never be a party to ungodly acts. He also commended the Church of Uganda for standing strong against homosexuality, which is being supported by the Church of England
President Museveni also promised to handle the issue of insecurity in the Karamoja region and went on to instruct the Police and Resident District Commissioners that if they did not perform as expected He would come back to the region himself and camp there to end insecurity in Karamoja
