Katikkiro Tasks Lawyers On The Declining Public Trust
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga has condemned what he called the high-handed manner in which the police arrested opposition women female legislators at the gates of Parliament on 27th April 2023.
The Katikkiro appealed to President Yoweri Museveni to address such human rights abuses against the mothers of Uganda.
Owekitiibwa Mayiga made the remarks during a meeting with the leadership of the Uganda Law Society at his office in Bulange, Mengo.
the Uganda law society delegate has been led by their newly elected president, Benard Oundo.
These were vising the Buganda kingdom for the first since taking over leadership of the society
They believe the Buganda kingdom has played a critical role in promoting the rule of law and therefore worth partnering with to further the same. They were welcomed by the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga.
The Katikkiro took to the occasion to condemn the inhumane efforts used on female opposition legislators. The legislators were marching to petition the internal affairs minister over police brutality and violation of women’s rights.
Uganda law society brings together all law practitioners across the country, these have been challenged to fill the gaps in the rule of law and fight for human rights.
But the Katikkiro is concerned that the image of the lawyers has of the late been tainted by how they have handled cases. He hopes the leaders can do all it takes to regain the public trust which has since been declining
