Kikuube Police Fires Teargas To Disperse Locals On Government Land
Police in the Kikuube district has fired teargas to disperse people who had illegally settled on government land.
Over 500 people had settled on the land in Nyamigisa village, Mandwiga parish, Kyangwali Sub County in Kikuube district.
They set up temporary structures after hearing that government was going to give out land titles to the sitting tenants and pay off the landlord.
Security led by the Regional police commander Albertine Vincent Mwesigye, the Resident District of Kikuube Amlan Tumusiime, and the commissioner of RDCs in the office of the President Sister Grace Mary Akiror have today held an engagement with people who had illegally settled on government land.
During the engagement, it was discovered that one person disappeared a few days ago in connection to fights over the same land, and six people were arrested to help in the investigations.
They have also resolved that they vacate the area peacefully as soon as possible but locals did not heed the request forcing security to disperse them with teargas.
The Albertine Region Police commander Vincent Mwesigye advised the people to follow procedures and further avoid creating IDPs in the district.
Some of the locals say they have gone through a lot and have further explained how they came to this land.
The said land which is equivalent to seven square miles formally belonged to the Minister for Public service Wilson Muruli Mukasa and the former Bugambe Sub-county LC3 Chairperson John Bahemuka under their company Nkuse Ranchers.
