Kyarubanga Central Forest Reserve Land Issue Finally Resolved
State Minister for Lands Sam Mayanja has blamed district leaders in Nakasongola for conniving with land grabbers to oppress tenants on Kyarubanga Central Forest Reserve, the land that was fully given to them by the President in the year 2019.
Mayanja says that the greediness of district leadership has made them divert from the President's directive of giving land to tenants and instead started dividing it among themselves hence causing a lot of suffering among residents.
In the year 2019, at Nakiyonza village, Lwabiyata Sub County, Nakasongola district, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni joined residents to celebrate the life of Minister of Public Service Wilson Muliri Mukasa and during celebrations, leaders agreed to request the President to allow residents of Kyarubanga get full control of the land such that they can make permanent investments.
Fortunately, through the Letter dated 11th of November 2019, the President accepted their request and allowed Kyarubanga Central Forest Reserve to be de-gazetted and he directed that it should be given to tenants.
However, district leadership acted on the contrary and started selling the land to different people who were not tenants as the directive stipulated hence forcing the State Minister for Lands Sam Mayanja to visit the land to make sure that all the conflicts were resolved.
In the meeting held at Nakiyonza Village in Lwabiyata Sub County, residents said that they tried to fight for themselves to ensure that the directive is implemented directly as it stipulates but whoever tried was arrested.
These further accused the LC 5 Chairperson of Nakasongola Sam Kigula and the former Deputy RDC of conniving with the thieves to frustrate them.
In defence of the accusations, Kigula said that he agrees that there are some mistakes that were made in the process of dividing and urged residents to stay calm and avoid politicizing the issue.
The area Member of Parliament of Budyebo Sub County Bernard Ssekyanzi says that he is now hopeful that his residents may get justice after fighting for over 4 years.
While addressing residents, Minister Mayanja blamed district leaders in Nakasongola for conniving with land grabbers to oppress tenants on the Forest Reserve yet it was fully given to them by the President in the year 2019.
Kyarubanga Central Forest Reserve covers over 16.8 square miles in 9 villages and 4 Sub counties that are Wabinyonyi, Nabiswera, Lwabiyata and Lwampanga with a population of over 10,000 people.
