Landslide Victims in Kyarumba Receive Relief Support: Caritas Kasese, Centenary Bank Aid Affected Families. Beneficiaries Urged to Use Donated Items Responsibly
Families affected by the devastating landslides that struck Kyarumba Town Council in Kasese District have received relief support to help them rebuild their lives. The assistance, provided by Caritas Kasese in partnership with Centenary Bank and other Catholic relief organizations, includes iron sheets, mattresses, blankets, tarpaulins, and cash support for the affected households.
Several families in Kyarumba Town Council were left homeless after landslides in March swept away houses, destroyed property, and disrupted livelihoods.
In response, Caritas Kasese, working together with Centenary Bank and other partners, has extended relief support aimed at helping the affected families recover and rebuild.
During the distribution exercise, beneficiaries received essential household items, including iron sheets, mattresses, blankets, tarpaulins, and financial assistance to support their resettlement efforts.
Speaking at the event, Rev. Fr. Mbusa Anyasio urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the support they had received and avoid diverting the items or funds to unintended purposes.
He also expressed gratitude to the partners and donors for standing in solidarity with the affected families during a difficult period.
Fr. Anyasio further commended the donors for their generosity and commitment to supporting vulnerable communities affected by natural disasters.
He noted that such interventions restore hope and help families regain stability after devastating losses.
The Caritas Kasese Relief Team Leader, Biira Doreen, cautioned beneficiaries against selling the donated items, emphasizing that the support was specifically intended to help families rebuild their homes and livelihoods.
Beneficiaries welcomed the support, saying it had brought renewed hope after months of uncertainty and hardship.
Kyaligonza Francis, one of the affected residents, said the assistance would go a long way in helping his family recover from the disaster.
Other beneficiaries, including Direda Muhindo, Bwambale Augustin, and Bwambale Amos, said they received both cash assistance and essential household items that will support their recovery efforts.
Organizers say millions of shillings have already been invested in supporting families affected by the landslides, with efforts continuing to help victims rebuild their homes and restore their livelihoods.
As recovery efforts continue, beneficiaries and local leaders remain hopeful that additional support will enable affected families to fully recover and become more resilient to future disasters.
