Launch Of Women-Focused Coffee Skills Project:Aims To Transform Lives Of Young Women.120,000 Young Women To Benefit From Coffee Skills Initiative

A new project aimed at empowering young women through agriculture and agribusiness has been launched in Rukungiri District

The initiative, which focuses on strengthening women's participation in the coffee value chain, is expected to equip more than 120,000 young women across Uganda with practical skills, entrepreneurship opportunities, and access to resources over the next four years.

Stakeholders say the project will boost livelihoods, create employment, and promote sustainable economic growth in the Kigezi and Rwenzori region

Speaking during the launch, ISSD Uganda representative Winnie Kobusingye said the project is being implemented in the Kigezi and Rwenzori regions with a strong focus on equipping young women with practical skills in coffee nursery operations, coffee farming, and agribusiness development.

Kobusingye added that empowering women through agriculture and agribusiness will not only improve household incomes but also contribute to community transformation and sustainable economic growth in the region.

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Rukungiri, Wilberforce Ogom, commended the initiative and urged project implementers to ensure it delivers a lasting and visible impact on the lives of beneficiaries in the district.

The guest of honour, Gen. Henry Tumukunde, represented by Davis Ikiriza, an Agribusiness Specialist at aBi Development, described the project as a significant milestone for the coffee sector in Kigezi. He applauded the Government of Uganda for its continued support towards agricultural development and cooperative growth.

Stakeholders expressed optimism that the initiative will strengthen the coffee value chain while creating long-term opportunities for young women through skills development, employment creation, entrepreneurship, and improved access to financial services.
