NRM Electoral Campaigns Kick Off as Nominations Close for MPs and LCV Chairpersons
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has officially closed nominations for Members of Parliament (MPs) and Local Council Chairpersons (LCVs), marking the conclusion of the candidacy phase and paving the way for the start of joint campaigns scheduled for July 2nd.
As the political climate heats up ahead of the upcoming elections, key party figures have announced their candidacies for top positions within the party, with the Central Executive Committee (CEC) nominations set to begin tomorrow.
On a bustling final day at the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters, the nomination window for MPs and LCV Chairpersons was officially closed. With campaigns slated to commence on July 2nd, the ruling party now enters a crucial stage of its internal democratic process.
Among the nominees announced today is Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, vying for the position of NRM Vice Chairman for the Western Region. Also confirmed is Godfrey Kiwanda, who is contesting for the same vice chairmanship but representing the Central Region.
Other notable nominations include Fred Byamukama, the State Minister for Transport, who has secured his place as the NRM candidate for the MP seat in Bugangaizi West constituency.
The race for the party’s top leadership, the Central Executive Committee, kicks off tomorrow, July 1st, and will run until July 5th. During this period, aspirants from across the country are expected to submit their nominations to vie for influential positions within the party’s decision-making body.
In a statement to the press shortly after the closure of nominations, Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, urged all candidates to coordinate closely with district election officers in preparation for the upcoming campaign activities.
“We encourage all candidates to work closely with district election officials to ensure smooth and peaceful campaigns,” Dr. Tanga Odoi remarked.
As NRM gears up for the next chapter, the party’s internal democratic processes intensify, setting the stage for a competitive and vibrant electoral period.
