NRM Mobilizes Nation Ahead of Museveni Swearing-In: Dual Celebrations Set for May 12 as Preparations Intensify. District Leaders Tasked to Fill Kololo and Ensure Nationwide Participation

The National Resistance Movement Secretary General Richard Todwong has convened district party leaders to finalize nationwide mobilization ahead of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s swearing-in, as government confirms dual celebrations for the May 12 inauguration.

As Uganda approaches 12th May, preparations for the Presidential Swearing-In are intensifying, with only days to go. A high-level coordination meeting held today brought together NRM district chairpersons, municipal and city division leaders, and district party secretaries to streamline plans for the successful execution of one of the country’s most significant constitutional events.

Addressing the leaders, NRM’s Secretary General Richard Todwong outlined that the day will feature two major events the official presidential swearing-in and celebrations marking Museveni’s continued leadership as party chairman.

He further revealed that over 11 billion shillings collected during the previous NRM primaries will be invested in constructing district party offices, particularly in areas where land has already been secured.

Construction of the party’s main headquarters in Kyadondo is also set to commence, in a project backed by President Museveni.

Meanwhile, NRM Treasurer Barbara Nekesa Oundo confirmed that party leaders attending the Kololo ceremony will wear coordinated outfits made from a common fabric distributed to ensure uniformity during the national event.

She added that for citizens unable to travel to Kololo, live screening arrangements have been made across all districts to enable wider participation.

As part of the build-up, the Uganda Air Force aerobatic team, the “Namunkanga,” is expected to conduct a symbolic flypast, delivering a message of appreciation to Ugandans for participating in the electoral process while showcasing national progress.

District leaders have expressed readiness, pledging to mobilize supporters and ensure both the Kololo ceremony and district-level screenings proceed smoothly.

With days to the swearing-in, the NRM is scaling up mobilization efforts nationwide, positioning the May 12 event not only as a constitutional transition, but also a demonstration of political organization, continuity, and national participation.
