NRM Rallies Supporters to Register for Village Elections: Party to Hold Nationwide Village Barazas to Endorse Flag Bearers.Todwong Warns Defeated Aspirants Against Running as Independents.
The National Resistance Movement has intensified preparations for the upcoming Women Council and Local Council One elections by mobilizing supporters to participate in the ongoing village registration exercise. The party says it will hold village barazas across the country to identify its official flag bearers while warning members against contesting as independent candidates after losing the party primaries.
The National Resistance Movement has stepped up mobilization for the forthcoming Women Council and Local Council One elections by encouraging its supporters to register in the ongoing village voters' register exercise.
Addressing journalists at the party headquarters in Kampala, NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong said the party is committed to ensuring that all eligible supporters participate in the electoral process.
He announced that the NRM will hold village barazas this Friday in all the country's villages to mobilize supporters and identify official party flag bearers ahead of the elections.
Todwong urged all NRM supporters to actively participate in the ongoing village registration exercise, emphasizing that only registered residents will be eligible to vote during the Women Council and Local Council One elections.
He also cautioned party members who lost in the NRM primaries against contesting as independent candidates, saying such actions violate the party constitution and undermine party unity and discipline.
His remarks come as the Electoral Commission continues the nationwide registration of residents into the village voters' register ahead of the Women's Council and Local Council One elections.
The registration exercise, which began this week, is expected to conclude on 10th July, paving the way for village-level elections across the country.
