Traders Call for Reliable Network Following Mtn Service Outage: Businesses Count Losses After Nationwide Service Disruption. Mobile Money Agents Raise Concerns Over Network Reliability.

Business owners and mobile money operators in Kampala are counting losses following MTN Uganda's nationwide service outage that disrupted voice, internet, and mobile money services on Sunday. The traders say the interruption affected transactions and customer service, while MTN says it has strengthened its systems to prevent a similar incident in the future.

The impact of MTN Uganda's nationwide service outage was widely felt among business operators in Kampala, with traders and mobile money agents reporting disruptions to their daily operations.

Many businesses that depend on digital payments say the temporary loss of network connectivity prevented them from completing transactions, affecting sales and customer confidence.

Mobile money agents say the outage was particularly costly, as customers were unable to send or receive money, make payments, or access other essential financial services.

For agents whose income depends on daily transaction volumes, the disruption translated into lost business opportunities.

Responding to the concerns, MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Mulinge apologized for the inconvenience, saying the disruption was caused by a power failure at one of the company's data centers.

She said the company has since strengthened its network systems, completed an internal review and introduced additional measures aimed at improving service reliability and preventing similar outages in the future.

As businesses increasingly rely on digital connectivity and mobile financial services, traders are calling for more reliable network services to minimize disruptions, while MTN says it remains committed to strengthening its infrastructure and restoring customer confidence.
