Uganda’s Largest Opposition Party Prepares for The Big Day! FDC’s National Delegates Conference Set for July 31st to Decide 2026 Presidential Flag Bearer

All eyes are on Najjanankumbi, Kampala, as the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Uganda’s leading opposition party, gears up for its highly anticipated National Delegates Conference scheduled for Thursday, July 31st, 2025. Over 2,000 delegates from across the country are expected to gather for what promises to be a pivotal event—a decisive vote to select the party’s presidential candidate for the 2026 elections.

The atmosphere at the FDC headquarters is charged with anticipation. According to party spokesperson John Kikonyogo, all systems are in place for the event, which will mark a crucial phase in the party’s internal politics. As the party shapes its future leadership, the conference underscores the stakes in Uganda’s increasingly competitive political landscape.

Two leading figures—current President Patrick Oboi Amuriat and Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi—are at the center of the contest, representing different factions within the party. The intra-party rivalry has fueled heightened tensions, making the event not just about selecting a presidential candidate but also about party unity and strategy moving forward.

On the eve of the conference, the FDC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) will hold a final planning session to iron out logistics, finalize the budget, and set the agenda. The outcome is expected to influence Uganda’s opposition politics significantly, setting the tone for the 2026 presidential race.

Political analysts and supporters alike are closely watching, as this internal contest could reshape Uganda’s political future, especially with one of the most competitive electoral battles anticipated in recent history.

The FDC delegates’ conference promises to be a landmark event, shaping not only the future leadership of Uganda’s main opposition party but also the broader political landscape ahead of a crucial national election. Stay tuned for updates as Uganda’s political drama unfolds.
