A total of 247 million shillings has been mobilised towards the purchase of an X-ray machine for Rwesande Health Centre IV located in Busongola North, Kasese District, under the South Rwenzori Diocese. The fundraising was targeting 300 million shillings.
Out of the total funds raised, 146 million shillings were collected in cash, while 104 million shillings were pledged during a fundraising dinner held at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, with the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, represented by the National Chairperson of the Women’s League, Adrine Kobusingye. She delivered a contribution of 20 million shillings in cash towards the cause.
Speaking at the event, Kobusingye assured the people of South Rwenzori Diocese of continued support towards improving healthcare services at Rwesande Health Centre IV.
The Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese, Nason Baluku, highlighted the persistent challenges facing the health facility, noting that the lack of an X-ray machine has significantly affected service delivery, hence the need for the fundraiser.
Meanwhile, the state minister for ICT commended the church for taking a leading role in advocating for improved health services in Kasese District.
He also called upon the government to prioritise the tarmacking of the road leading to the facility, citing its poor condition as a major barrier to effective healthcare delivery.
Members of Parliament from Kasese District applauded all contributors, emphasising that the health sector deserves maximum attention and collective effort.
The fundraising initiative is expected to significantly boost diagnostic services at Rwesande Health Centre IV once the X-ray machine is acquired.
