Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe Urges Christians to Support and Encourage One Another for a Fruitful Spiritual Harvest

Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe Urges Christians to Support and Encourage One Another for a Fruitful Spiritual Harvest

Thousands of believers gathered at the Diocesan Mission Center, Nyakaina Church of Uganda, from Friday to Sunday, May 4, 2025, for a vibrant three-day mission that reignited faith and spiritual awakening across the region. The second diocesan quarter mission proved to be a powerful moment of revival, reflection, and renewed commitment to Christ.

During the event, Maama Florence Asiimwe highlighted the importance of community fellowship and daily repentance, likening spiritual self-examination to medical checkups. “Just as we visit hospitals regularly, we need to examine ourselves spiritually daily,” she urged.

Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe emphasized proactive spiritual and physical health, encouraging believers not to wait for illness to seek healing or prayer. “Some diseases can be prevented. Let us seek medical checkups even when we feel well,” he cautioned.

In a compelling sermon, Mr. Kakuru Godard challenged Christians to genuinely know God before reflecting His goodness through acts of kindness and service. “It is only when you know God that you can truly imitate Him,” he said. He also warned against falling back into sins like alcoholism, drug abuse, and sexual immorality, which can hinder the blessings received from God.

Mrs. Penelope Oyamba Kwikiriza reminded the congregation of Galatians 6:7—“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” She emphasized that living according to the flesh leads to destruction, but sowing in the Spirit results in eternal life. She called believers to remain faithful to their salvation covenant, warning of the dangers of turning away from God.

Bishop Onesimus delivered a transformative sermon titled “Untying the Bound,” focusing on the vital role of evangelists in freeing those oppressed by sin. Using John 11:44, he stressed, “You cannot preach against sin when you are still bound to it. Jesus sets you free first so you can effectively minister to others.” He urged the congregation to reject behaviors like sexual immorality, alcoholism, and witchcraft, embracing life in the Spirit and love—just as Jesus commanded.

Concluding the powerful message, Bishop Onesimus illustrated the act of surrender by depicting Christ reigning in the believer’s heart, symbolized by sitting in a chair and kneeling before it. The event’s impact was evident, with over 300 individuals—young and old—committing their lives to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
