Archbishop Kaziimba Expresses Concern Over Regional Conflict
The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has expressed deep concern over the growing conflict in neighboring countries, particularly the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has led to a significant influx of refugees into Uganda.
He described the situation as a growing challenge and urged leaders to prioritize peace and respect for human dignity. He made the remarks while delivering his 2025 Easter message at the Provincial Headquarters today, as Christians prepare to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Delivering his 2025 Easter message at the Provincial Headquarters today, Archbishop Kaziimba decried the spread of violence and political strife across borders, warning against the importation of such conflict into Uganda.
He noted that the refugee influx has overwhelmed local resources, leaving many displaced persons vulnerable and without support.
He condemned the importing of politics and fighting and violence, calling for respect for human dignity. He also condemned the rising levels of corruption in Uganda, which have affected service delivery, calling upon the culprits to repent this Easter.
Reflecting on the significance of Easter, he emphasized the importance of renewing a commitment to faithful stewardship of God’s creation. He called on Christians to actively embrace environmental protection as part of their faith journey.
In addition, the archbishop urged the government to invest more in the health sector. He emphasized the urgent need to implement the National Health Insurance Scheme and address the increasing use of illicit drugs, which he said contributes to rising crime rates.
This year’s Easter theme is “Jesus’ Resurrection: Our Hope for Eternity,” derived from 1 Corinthians 15:12–58. Archbishop Kaziimba concluded by stating that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a powerful reminder that death is not the end, and through Him, there is eternal hope.
