Display Of National Voters Register Commences

The Electoral Commission of Uganda has announced a nationwide commencement of the national voters’ register and registers for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) exercise.

The activity, which commences today, 25th April, and ends on 15th May, is targeting 98.4% of the total polling stations, with a few delays expected in 620 polling stations.

The Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama implored Ugandans to embrace the exercise.

With only a few months until the 2026 general elections, the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, in accordance with Section 26 of the Electoral Commission Act (Cap 176), has announced a nationwide display of the National Voters Register effective today, 25th April 2025.

According to Byabakama, the display exercise will last until 15th May 2025, targeting 98.4% of the 38,315 total polling stations across the country.

Byabakama indicated how the display of registers for special interest groups, including the youth, people with disabilities, and women, will also run from today, 25th April, to 8th May 2025 at the village level.

The purpose of the display exercise is to allow the checking for the correctness of individual particulars on the voter’s register, among other purposes.

However, the Electoral Commission revealed how delays will be experienced in 620 polling stations, accounting for 1.8% of the total polling stations. Among the affected areas are Arua City, Buikwe, Buvuma, Fort Portal, Kampala, and others, as explained.

The commission assured how the display exercise will be followed by ten days of displaying the lists of persons recommended for inclusion or deletion from the National Voters Register from 16th May to 26th May 2025. Hence, the general public has been implored to embrace the exercise.

When asked about the fate of the three districts recommended by President Museveni in Tororo, Byabakama indicated how the commission does not have the requisite communication regarding the matter and hence cannot act on the basis of what has been reported in the news.
