Faith and Transformation in Kyeizooba: How Church Projects Are Reshaping Lives Amid New Challenges
Kyeizooba, Western Uganda — In the lush rolling hills of Western Uganda, the Kyeizooba Archdeaconry under the West Ankole Diocese is making remarkable strides beyond spiritual preaching. Through impactful development projects, the church is actively transforming lives—supporting education, healthcare, and community empowerment, and becoming a beacon of hope for many local residents.
Our correspondent sat down with the Venerable Laban Mwijuka, the Archdeacon of Kyeizooba, to discuss these initiatives, the challenges facing the church, and its vision for the future.
Ven. Mwijuka explained that the church’s development projects aim to foster holistic community growth. While traditional church support relies heavily on tithes and offerings, these projects provide an alternative source of support that sustains and enhances the church’s service to its members.
“Through these efforts, we’re not just nurturing spirits, but also building resilient communities,” Mwijuka shared. “Education and health initiatives are vital for our people’s future.”
However, amid the progress, the Archdeacon raises concerns over the increasing number of new churches emerging within the region. These "mushrooming" faith establishments, he warns, often promise quick wealth and instant miracles, attracting many away from the traditional Anglican faith.
Ven. Mwijuka cautions that this desire for immediate riches and trust in charismatic individuals pose a risk to spiritual integrity. He emphasizes that many believers are placing their faith in individuals claiming divine powers, rather than in God, which he sees as a major challenge for the church today.
Despite these hurdles, the Archdeacon remains optimistic. Drawing inspiration from hymn number 147, “Jesus is the foundation of His church,” he affirms the enduring strength of the true Church of Christ. With continued prayer, guidance, and community-focused development, Mwijuka believes that the light of faith in Kyeizooba will shine even brighter.
Kyeizooba’s story exemplifies how faith-based initiatives can bring tangible improvements to everyday lives, even in the face of spiritual challenges. The church’s resilience, rooted in its unwavering faith, continues to inspire hope for a stronger, united Christian community.
