
Kadaga Hails Ankole Diocese On Poverty Alleviation
The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Community Affairs, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has commended Ankole Diocese for its programs on improving household incomes and transforming communities in western Uganda
Ankole Diocese under the leadership of Bishop Sheldon Mwesigwa, is undertaking a number of income generating projects, including a coffee growing campaign targeting about 46,000 households as part of the diocese’s community and household transformation programme.
The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Community Affairs, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga was the chief guest at the Ankole Diocese Kampala Fellowship held at St. Francis Chapel Makerere University.
The fellowship was hosted the chaplain of St. Francis Chapel Rev. Can. Onesimus Asiimwe who is also the Bishop elect of North Kigezi Diocese. He hailed Ankole diocese for organizing the fellowship which brought together Christians from different parts of the country.
The Bishop of Ankole Diocese, Sheldon Mwesigwa called for the need to work together to address the social psychological issues affecting many Ugandans
The fellowship organizer, Jemrex Byamugisha, said they will hold regular fellowships involving physical meetings and online, in addition to seminars with topics on marriage and family, parenting skills, among others
The head of the Laity in Ankole Diocese, Hebert Kamugisha, said the diocese plans to establish an industrial park that will among many benefits, create jobs mostly for the youth and other Ugandans, to address the unemployment challenge
Ankole Diocese also opened a branch of Millennium SACCO in Ntinda, Kampala.
