Media Inclusion: Breaking Barriers In The Fight Against Corruption

Today, the Inspectorate of Government spearheaded a crucial breakfast meeting with media practitioners. The focus was to strengthen partnerships to accelerate the battle against corruption in Uganda.

Media professionals were urged to collaborate closely with anti-corruption agencies, recognizing their pivotal role in swiftly disseminating information.

This strategic alliance marks a significant step as part of the preparatory activities leading up to Anti-Corruption Day on December 9th.

In a bid to combat corruption in Uganda, Anti-corruption Agencies thought it wise to include the media in fighting this vice, and today they all jointly held a Breakfast meeting.

The Inspector General of Government Beti Olive Namisango Kamya noted that Corruption comes from a breakdown of a system so the mandate of partnering organizations is to protect the systems.

She also requested to have a good working relationship with the media in terms of communication as a vehicle to end the vice.

Benson Turamye the Executive Director of PPDA discussed Why Public Procurement is a target for corruption. He attributed corruption to personal morals and conflicts of interest among citizens.

A number of partnering agencies were represented and among the issues they discussed was the need for media to implore quality reporting as well as involving citizens in this fight.

The media personnel present called for continued cooperation. Mr Amos Mwesigye the Managing Director of COU Family TV tasked the agencies to come up with a proper proposal on how to tackle this.

It is highly believed that once the media is independent, it will contribute a tremendous brick to the fight against corruption due to its ability to detect, investigate, and whistle blow in case of any smoke.
