
Namirembe Cathedral Dean Calls For Unity During The Commemoration Of Janan Luwum Day
The dean of st. Paul's cathedral Namirembe, the very rev canon Jonathan Kisawuzi Ssalongo has urged Ugandans to use the commemoration of the Janan Luwum day as a reminder that we leave in the country as brothers and sisters without discrimination and fight for freedom and peace of all humanity.
This was during the memorial service of the late Janan Luwum organized by FRONASA veterans in conjunction with the province of the church of Uganda at Namirembe cathedral.
Today, the country has commemorated Janan Luwum day which happens every 16th day of February. Now, Fronasa veterans in conjunction with the province of the church of Uganda Namirembe cathedral have held a service to commemorate this day presided over by the dean for Namirembe cathedral the Very Rev Canon Jonathan Kisawuzi Ssalongo.
Speaking to the mass, the dean says that Janan Luwum day should be a trigger to remind people about brotherhood such that we get to avoid the politics of elimination and discrimination.
He adds that this day should help remind people about the history of the country and avoid repeating themselves.
The very rev can Kisawuzi further urged investigators to do their work transparently to avoid apprehending the wrong people.
The chief whip for Fronasa veterans has shown the need for the whole world to commemorate the Janan Luwum day saying that he did a lot not only for Uganda therefore, the government of Uganda should think of awarding him a star medal, this was also seconded by the dean.
The other veterans and FRONASA members urged Ugandans to learn from Luwum and also to contribute to the positive change of this country while commemorating this day.
Archbishop Janani Luwum Day is observed every February 16 in Uganda. The day recognizes the pivotal contributions of Janan Luwum, former Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Uganda. It is widely known that he was murdered on the orders of Uganda’s former President Idi Amin because he was very vocal in his criticism of Amin’s dictatorship and excesses in leadership. Despite being gone for over 46 years now, Archbishop Janan’s legacy lives on and he is today regarded as one of the most influential leaders of the modern church in Africa.
