NUP To Petition EC Over Unfair Nomination Processes

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has today announced plans to petition the Electoral Commission over what it describes as the unfair disqualification of some of its LC5 district chairperson candidates during the recently concluded nomination exercise for the upcoming 2026 general elections.

The NUP Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, stated that the party intends to petition the Electoral Commission regarding what he termed as unfair treatment during the recently concluded local government nomination process.
While addressing the press at the party headquarters in Makerere-Kavule, Rubongoya alleged that some NUP candidates in various districts—including Nakasongola, Ssembabule, and Katakwi—were denied nomination without clear or justifiable reasons.

Some of the members who claimed that they were unfairly treated spoke out, citing that there had been falsified signatures, among others.

Rubongoya emphasized that a tentative list had been compiled after going through a party tribunal, which later approved a final list of candidates. He confirmed that the party has only one candidate for each position.

He further dismissed accusations that party cards and endorsements were being unfairly distributed to friends and relatives, describing such claims as mere propaganda.

As the 2026 general election draws closer, Ugandans are eager to see what unfolds, especially after witnessing chaotic scenes during party primaries and the distribution of party cards, particularly within the two main competing parties, NRM and NUP.
