Remembering Pope Francis: A Tribute from the Church of Uganda
Beloved, praise God from whom all blessings flow.
On behalf of the Church of Uganda, I extend heartfelt condolences to all Ugandan Roman Catholics and believers worldwide who are grieving the death of Pope Francis. His passing marks a significant loss in our global community of faith.
As we prepare for the celebration of the Ugandan Martyrs, we fondly remember Pope Francis’ visit to Uganda in 2015, where he expressed his deep appreciation for the Uganda Martyrs Museum at the Anglican site in Namugongo. During this historic visit, he unveiled a dedication stone, offering a prayer that the Uganda Martyrs would continue to inspire generations of youth to follow Christ.
Pope Francis was a true advocate for the youth, demonstrating unwavering dedication to pro-life commitments and championing the poor and oppressed. His voice will be sorely missed in a world that longs for justice, compassion, and hope.
As we reflect on his legacy, we recall the words of Scripture: "He fought the good fight; he finished the race; he kept the faith." Now, he who longed for our Lord’s appearing receives the crown of righteousness.
May we continue to honor his memory by embodying the values he championed throughout his papacy.
The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu
Archbishop of the Church of Uganda
Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala
