Appointments Committee Concludes Vetting Of Cabinet Nominees:Ministerial Appointees Pledge Improved Service Delivery.Nominees Outline Priorities In Education, Investment, Minerals And Regiona

Uganda’s parliamentary Appointments Committee has concluded the vetting of President Yoweri Museveni’s Cabinet nominees, with ministerial appointees pledging to strengthen service delivery, promote economic growth, and address key national priorities. The exercise marks a major step toward the formal establishment of the new Cabinet that will steer government business in the 12th Parliament.

The Appointments Committee of Parliament has concluded the second and final day of vetting Cabinet nominees appointed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni last week.

The exercise, presided over by Speaker Jacob Marksons Oboth and Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, saw 42 nominees appear before the committee, completing the scrutiny of the 81 individuals appointed to various Cabinet positions.

Among those vetted were Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, John Chrysostom Muyingo, Phiona Nyamutoro, and Shartsi Musherure, among others.

Speaking after the vetting, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga pledged to strengthen regional cooperation by engaging member states of the East African Community to meet their financial obligations under the regional treaty.

She noted that some partner states have lagged behind in remitting their contributions and revealed plans to engage regional leaders to enhance financial commitment and strengthen the bloc.

Meanwhile, John Chrysostom Muyingo reaffirmed his commitment to improving access to education and dismissed reports suggesting schools would be closed because of Ebola concerns.

He urged parents to disregard misinformation and continue sending their children to school, assuring the public that learning activities would proceed uninterrupted.

For her part, Phiona Nyamutoro pledged to advance Uganda’s mineral sector and ensure the country’s natural resources contribute meaningfully to national development and citizen welfare.

The Minister of State for Privatisation and Investment designate, Amina Mukalazi, described the vetting process as smooth and constructive, promising to support efforts aimed at attracting investment and stimulating economic growth.

Similarly, David Bahati said the new Cabinet will focus on building upon existing achievements while addressing persistent challenges such as unemployment, industrialisation, and wealth creation.

Several nominees expressed gratitude to the President for entrusting them with national responsibilities and pledged to serve with diligence and integrity.

With the vetting process now concluded, attention shifts to the formal approval and swearing-in of the new Cabinet as the government moves to implement its agenda under the 12th Parliament.
