Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe Leads Thousands in the Way of the Cross
Rukungiri, Uganda – April 18, 2025 – Today, Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe, along with thousands of Christians, participated in the Way of the Cross through the streets of Rukungiri town, commemorating Good Friday—the day Jesus was crucified.
Following the procession, Bishop Onesimus and the faithful from North Kigezi gathered for a meaningful service at All Saints Church, where they celebrated their faith and reflected on the significance of the day.
The symbolic event united participants from various groups, including students from Kinyasano Girls’ High School, boys from Makobore High School, congregants from Emmanuel Cathedral and All Saints Church, as well as members from Besania Prayer Mountain. Together, they embraced the true essence of Good Friday, fostering community and devotion.
In addition to the Way of the Cross, Bishop Onesimus and a team of clergy visited patients at North Kigezi Health Center IV. They offered prayers and blessings to the patients, pregnant mothers, and new mothers, lifting spirits as joyful praises filled the air. To enhance their comfort, patients and mothers received bars of soap, further embodying the spirit of sharing and compassion championed by All Saints Church. This outreach brought hope and encouragement to those in need at Rugarama Health Center IV.
In his sermon, Bishop Onesimus encouraged congregants to embrace salvation and turn away from sin. Citing John 19:30, he emphasized that “the price was paid in full,” as Jesus proclaimed from the cross that "it is finished." He reassured the faithful that their hope is anchored in Christ, who defeated death and rose on the third day. “While the devil may have laughed at Jesus when He died,” the Bishop remarked, “Jesus had the last laugh because He resurrected.”
During the Good Friday celebrations, over one hundred (100) individuals received Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. Many experienced miraculous healings through the act of walking and the fervent prayers offered during the event, as evidenced by numerous testimonies shared by participants.
Other dignitaries present included Maama Florence Asiimwe, The Very Rev. Amatsiko Miwegariho (Dean of Emmanuel Cathedral), Ven. Kakanyisa Archdeacon Rujumbura, Rev. Nshabaruhanga Munturive (Diocesan Executive Committee member), Mr. Abel Turayabe Matita (Diocesan Head of Laity), Mrs. Irene Tumwesigyire (Diocesan MU Coordinator), Rev. Julius Niwagaba (Diocesan Missions Coordinator), Rev. Frank Kiconco (Bishop's Chaplain), Mrs. Joan Mutungi (Mothers Union President), and many others.
This remarkable event not only commemorated the sacrifices of Good Friday but also reinforced the faith and unity of the Christian community in Rukungiri.
