Church of Uganda Trustees Engage Potential Telecom Partner, Receive Update on Land Information System

Church of Uganda Bishops convened today at Kabalega Resort Hotel in Hoima City for their Board of Trustees meeting, where they laid out strategies aimed at strengthening the Church’s communication systems and safeguarding its land assets.

During the meeting, a team from Hamilton Telecom, led by their Group Chairman Mr. John Mukalazi Kamya, presented a proposal for a strategic partnership with the Church of Uganda.

The proposed partnership offers an opportunity to harness the power of mobile technology to create a unified communication channel across the Church, improve service delivery, and create employment opportunities for the youth.

It will also provide a new, sustainable revenue stream for the Church without requiring capital investment, while promoting financial literacy and inclusion, and supporting healthcare and social services.

Discussions are ongoing to consider Hamilton Telecom’s subsidiary, Paxtel, as the official communication partner of Church of Uganda.

In the same meeting, a team from Provide and Equip, led by Dr. Moses Bagyendera, presented the Land Management Information System (LMIS), a tool developed to establish a clear, factual record of the land owned by the Church of Uganda and to protect it from land grabbers.

Rev. Dr. Jasper Tumuhimbise, the Chief Executive Officer of the Church Commissioners Holding Company Ltd, described the system as user-friendly and announced that it will be officially rolled out soon.

He commended the Trustees for their continued support in the mass land titling exercise, which is being conducted in partnership with the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.

On 30th July 2025, the Archbishop of Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, while addressing Diocesan Secretaries and Estates Officers during a training on the newly developed Land Information Management System at the Provincial Secretariat in Namirembe issued a stern warning to land grabbers

He emphasized that the Church will no longer tolerate illegal occupation of its land and is now fully equipped to track and protect its property using digital tools.
