The Minister for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs, Minsa Kabanda, has called on local entrepreneurs, innovators, and investors to take advantage of trade exhibitions to expand markets, create jobs, and drive Uganda’s economic transformation.
She made the remarks during the opening of the Kira Municipal Annual Trade Expo 2025 held at the Kira Municipal Grounds.
The four-day expo, running from May 14th to 17th under the theme “Driving Inclusive Social and Economic Transformation,” has attracted hundreds of exhibitors showcasing both locally and internationally manufactured products, including agricultural technologies, household items, fashion products, cosmetics, and processed foods.
Kabanda emphasized the importance of quality assurance, urging traders and manufacturers to obtain certification from the Uganda National Bureau of Standards in order to improve the competitiveness of Ugandan products on regional and international markets.
The minister further highlighted the need for improved infrastructure, better urban planning, and supportive investment policies to enable businesses to thrive within rapidly growing urban centers.
Leaders at the event encouraged local entrepreneurs and commercial players to support homegrown innovations, noting that strengthening local industries can create more employment opportunities, especially for youth and women.
Organizers say this year’s expo aims to connect manufacturers, innovators, and consumers while promoting locally made products under the Buy Uganda Build Uganda initiative.
The exhibition has already attracted large crowds of residents and business executives, with exhibitors reporting increased customer engagement, networking opportunities, and strong sales as visitors continue to enjoy discounted products at the exhibition grounds.
