Northern Uganda Prepares for a Historic Uganda Martyrs Day 2025 Celebration

Namirembe, Kampala—April 22, 2025

Preparations for the 2025 Uganda Martyrs Day, set to take place on June 3 at the Namugongo Anglican Martyrs Site, are in full swing, according to the Rt. Rev. Godfrey Loum, Chairman of the Northern Uganda Regional Cluster.

This year’s celebration promises to be a significant event, with plans to welcome over one million pilgrims from Uganda and around the globe. Bishop Loum led a high-level delegation, including several bishops, during a meeting with the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, at the Provincial Secretariat in Namirembe.

Key Highlights of the Upcoming Celebrations:

  • Main Preacher: The Rt Rev. Henry Luke Orombi, retired Archbishop of the Church of Uganda.
  • Chief Guest: H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of Uganda.
  • Budget: The overall budget for the celebrations has been finalized and shared with stakeholders, with optimism for government support.
  • Security Measures: Enhanced security will ensure the safety of all pilgrims and delegates, with special advisories for pregnant women and individuals with health complications to refrain from the foot pilgrimage.

Bishop Loum also shared exciting plans for a 400-member choir, composed of 50 choristers from each diocese, to lead worship during this momentous occasion. To commemorate the event, the cluster will implement a solar-powered lighting project around the Uganda Martyrs Anglican Site, enhancing the pilgrimage experience for all attendees.

A Legacy of Faith and Sacrifice

Archbishop Kaziimba applauded the bishops for their unity and commitment to servant leadership, emphasizing the spiritual significance of Uganda Martyrs Day. He stated, “This day calls us to proclaim the Gospel with boldness, inspired by the unwavering faith of the Uganda Martyrs.”

He formally commissioned the Northern Uganda Regional Cluster for this vital task and urged mission and development partners to provide generous support.

As preparations continue, the Northern Uganda Regional Cluster remains dedicated to honoring the legacy of the 45 young martyrs who sacrificed their lives for their Christian faith, making this year’s celebration a true reflection of community spirit and resilience.

Join us for this sacred occasion and be part of a tradition that inspires faith and community across the world!
