UCU Appreciates Church of Uganda Bishops for the Continued Support
Aaron Mushengyezi, the vice chancellor of UCU, extended heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the university management to all Church of Uganda Bishops for their continued support to UCU. This was a head of the Consecration and Enthronement of Rev. Canon Joshua Kugonza as the 3rd Bishop of Masindi - Kitara Diocese and the dedication of the New St. Mathew’s Cathedral Building.
He noted that through the Bishops, all dioceses have consistently supported the university, particularly through UCU Sunday. In 2024, we received three hundred fifty-four million five hundred nine thousand nine hundred four Uganda Shillings only (Ugx. 354, 509, 904) as UCU Sunday collections.
“The money has been of great support to the university, and for this, we are all grateful. Each of you will receive a special gift as a token of appreciation from all of us serving at UCU.”
Resources collected during UCU Sunday are committed to the following:
1. Training of the Clergy: UCU reaches out to train clergy within dioceses in areas of their choice. Over 15 dioceses have so far benefited from these trainings.
2. Tuition Support: Partial scholarships are offered to children of clergy studying at UCU. So far, 40 clergy children have been supported and some have already graduated.
3. Campus Infrastructural Development: This includes renovating buildings, paving walkways, and constructing new university structures. A percentage of the money collected is also remitted to university colleges and campuses for infrastructural development.
The Vice Chancellor made special mention of dioceses that collected and remitted more resources than others.
